I want to buy a treadmill for a beginning runner. What is the best choice for under $2000?
User is 6ft tall, 200 lbs and eventually wants to run in a marathon. A folding model would be ideal. Another issue that came up is irt assembly – What is a reasonable amount of time and/or how much can one expect to pay?
Searching online has come up with the Sole F80 and the Smooth 6.25 but there are so many testimonials / endorsements that one begins to question there validity. There is also a NordicTrack 4200 for sale in the needed price range.
I would really prefer to stay btwn $1200 and $1700 but I’m afraid that a machine in that range will break down within a year or two.
If there are any serious runners out there… Please help… Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
The IFIT is a great treadmill and very affordable. Mine cost me about $800. but there are more expensive models. Mine has plenty of bells and whistles though. I have had my treadmill for several years and it hasn’t had any problems. Good Luck
fat loss 4 idiots? DON’T DO IT!! I’ve been on it for 11 days, and have only lost 3 lbs!!!?
My wife and I thought we’d start a diet plan to loose some belly fat, etc. I’m 35 years old, and lead an active lifestyle. The diet plan of choice, “Fat Loss 4 Idiots”. Well, I believe that you have to be an idiot to buy into this “diet plan”. This was an actual day’s meal plan: Peanuts and walnuts for a meal?? Really?? Turkey slices and Orange Roughy for another meal?? Third meal: a bowl of pinto beans?? Finally, shrimp and boiled eggs for your final meal?? Ewe!
GROSS!!! Basically, never eat until you’re full. That’s the over all plan. DUH! Ask yourself, “Is giving someone $40 online a good diet plan?? I might lose a pound or two because I’m just sick that SOMEONE out there has my $40 and all I have is a meager 3 lb. loss, probably all water weight, and an uneasy feeling in my belly from eating all these crazy food combinations. GASTRO-INTESTINAL NIGHTMARE!!!
I feel like such an idiot!! (no pun intended) Anyone out there know how to get your money back
I’m sorry for your experience, but your post is a classic example of why it’s important to research, research, research weight-loss programs before trying them, and especially before forking over your hard-earned money.
Research has shown over and over that short-term diets do not work, especially those that restrict your eating to particular food groups. And you are quite correct in that the best programs will result in one or two pounds per week of FAT loss, and while three pounds in 11 days might “sound good,” it is unlikely that it is actual fat that you have lost.
There are many good guidelines out there on general websites, such as WebMD, Yahoo Health, the NY Times and MSNbc. Basically, it comes down to sleeping well, exercising (which you say that you do) and eating nutritiously (fruits and veggies, whole grains and protein – and limiting sugar and sodium, especially the hidden kinds in many processed foods).
Good luck to you and your wife – don’t give up, look upon this as a learning experience!
The latest hype on diets right now is FatLoss4Idiots. This Ebook can be downloaded instantly and includes a new style of dieting that involves “calorie shifting.” This new way of dieting is why this particular program is so popular, being the number 1 selling diet in the world right now.
What the FatLoss4Idiots Ebook includes is a step by step meal by meal plan that constantly changes the types of calories you are eating. This tricks your metabolism into never adapting to a certain type of diet plan. Like anything else in this world, the human body adapts to things.
This is why millions of people start a diet, lose some weight initially, but then the weight loss comes to a stand still. This is because your metabolism has adapted to a certain diet and way of eating. In the Fatloss4idiots Ebook, this will never happen, as it tells you exactly how to eat so your metabolism never adapts!
This can be seen in so many other examples: in professional athletes, workouts are changed constantly so the body doesnt adapt to a certain style of training. This is called staleness in the athletic world and can be seen in people who try to follow eating the same foods over and over as with many diets out there. With Fatloss4idiots, this staleness does not occur.
This is why so many success stories are arising from this product. For as long as you follow the FatLoss4Idiots Ebook plan you will lose weight. The average findings suggest about 7-9 pounds every 10-12 days on average when following the guide directly. Good luck in your endevours to a better you!
More information on the Fatloss4idiots ebook can be found at the FatLoss4Idiots Resource page. There is also a 50% discount being offered for a few days and free bonuses worth over $100 which can be found at FatLoss4Idiots Discount Page.

This makes my first nutrition book review in this blog. The book What to eat by Marion Nestle is getting raving reviews in Amazon. Maybe because she is saying the truth without political coatings or she is a nutrition professor and people trust experts.
From the reviews I have read, the book has some very powerful but practical guides to everyday eating that can save you from adding tons of useless fat and sugar in your system and to help you make healthy choices for your future and your children s future. There is even a section on environmental degradation as related to food production.
In the amazon review it is stated that and I quote “Nestle walks readers through every supermarket section–produce, meat, fish, dairy, packaged foods, bottled waters, and more–decoding labels and clarifying nutritional and other claims (in supermarket-speak, for example, “fresh” means most likely to spoil first, not recently picked or prepared), and in so doing explores issues like the effects of food production on our environment, the way pricing works, and additives and their effect on nutrition”.
For the most part there is always the confusion of the terms natural and organic and companies that sell packed food use the term natural to lure unsuspecting customers to buy their products. It is therefore wise to have a book that will walk one through the labels and make one a very informed customer.
Going through the customer reviews in Amazon, I was tempted to rush and buy this book. Here are some of the reviews that caught my attention.
On customer commented on her section on meats by saying this,” she notes well, those who cull (kill, slaughter) the meat Americans eat work for low wages in very dangerous conditions, with the buyer all to willing to ignore just what happens to get that piece of meat on ones dinner table or fast food meal”.
This comment is based on Page 139 of the book in which she says that raising cattle consumes vast amounts of nonrenewable energy.
Marion states that according to figures in the June 2004 National Geographic, it takes more than 200 gallons of fuel oil to raise a 1,200 pound steer on a feedlot. It is like we buy meat and the money goes to environmental destruction and well you thought this country was a ‘developed’ country’ that should have some developed ways to take care of the environment.
Another customer review that I loved was this one “What to Eat serves up 600 pages of indispensable advice, but the author is also willing to sum it up quickly: “Eat less, move more, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, go easy on junk foods.”
We all know this too well, it is a cliche, but maybe when it comes from the wise words of a professor there is value in it.
The best part in the book for me, is the section that looks at the different labels and ingredients. Knowledge is power. As a parent being informed means, less poison in my system and in my children too. I will feed myself and my children right and not live in ignorant of the dangers of what I choose to consume.
However this book though popular and well praised by many there were some negative reviews that I noted such as this one “Her section on seafood is just plain scary. Pollution coupled with aquafarming make seafood — especially those on the higher echelon of the food chain — unsafe and dangerous to eat”. One reviewer commented.
And this is always my problem with some nutrition and fitness books, they tend to instill fear and can lead to some parents doing very crazy things to try and protect their children. It is important as a customer to always find out what will work best for you and not to become a food extremist, if such a thing exists.
In conclusion I think What to Eat by Marion Nestles is book to consider, mainly for the part that she exposes facts on environmental degradation related to food production and the part on scrutinizing labels in the supermarket. From the reviews it is an easy read aimed at everyday people who walk the aisles to buy food.
She also has a section on the dangers of formula milk and therefore coupled with the above powerful parts, I give it a five star and I a hope to grab it sometime soon.
The books sells in amazon for eighteen bucks, not so expensive considering we spend more than that on pizza and soda alone in one meal!
